Default Porfidio Silver "Double Distilled"

Greetings all. This is my first post here. You seem to be the people who can tell me a little about a recent find.

I was in a small wine/liquor shop in a small town in Belgium that happened to have a few tequilas on the shelf. 100% agave tequila is very hard to come by here and even harder at a reasonable price. On a whim, I decided to buy this tequila I've never heard of for the very reasonable price of about 18 euros. When I got home, I tried to find out more about it. There isn't much information out there, but I might have come across something special. Does anybody know anything about this? Is it worth anything? Any buyers out there, or shall I just drink it?

It is a bottle of Double Distilled Porfidio Silver. There isn't much more information on the bottle. It's corked and it looks like there might have been some evaporation through the cork (or maybe that's just how full these bottles are). The red label over the cork has the number 2541994. That's about it. Any thoughts? A pic is attached.

I went back and bought another bottle. I mentioned to the shop owner that information about the tequila is hard to find and I asked her how long she's had it. "Many years" was her reply. There's also one bottle of Porfidio Anejo with a green (I think) cactus on the shelf for 40 euros. Tempting.

Can you find the NOM on the bottle? It will tell you which distillery made your tequila.

Yes, you have a some what of a rare bottle, but they are still around

Porfidio "Tequila" has been out of business for a number of years, you can read a lot about Porfidio here in the threads. I would venture to say the NOM is 1141, which the distillery is no longer around.

I would say the The Double distilled Silver is worth more than the Green Cactus Anejo. I have seen the Anejo sell for between $100 and $200 a bottle. Do you know if the bottle has a green rim....that would get more $$$. The Silver should go for $175 +.

Bottom line is you found some nice bottles.

Thanks for the reply! Definitely sounds like I found some interesting bottles. Now I have to decide if I want to sell any or just keep them for myself.

I don't have any more info on the anejo, but I'm thinking about picking it up. It sounds like it's supposed to be a pretty good tequila, and I do like a good anejo. That might be more difficult to part with.

Well, Theoman.....nice find on your treasure bottles. You still never mentioned the NOM's on the bottles? Not for nothing....if I were you I would just sit back, sip, and enjoy that tequila! IMHO, any older Porfidios that do not have "Beyond Tequila" printed on the label are worth their weight in gold. For me personally, I would put more value into swirling that fine juice around in a snifter, savoring the aromas and letting my palette savor one of life's finer gifts....maybe even paired with a nice cigar?

Thanks for the words. I never mentioned the nom because I can't find anything that says it's a nom. The only distinguishing characteristic appears to be the 2541994 on the paper over the cork. I would much rather pass it on to somebody who will appreciate it more than I. You'll probably hate this, but the silver is going to go in margaritas if I drink it. I like good tequila, but I'm sure there are other who like it more. I'd hate to waste something truly special on myself. Now, I have some rare beers in my cellar that aren't going anywhere.

I'm not out to make lots of money, so I'll let it go at a good price if someone is in Belgium. I want good profit if I have to put in a lot of effort.
