Default Sotol Plata HDC

My my my...

I wasn't sure what to expect when Mario sold me on the bottle, $27 out the door, the words 'wild harvested' really caught my eye. I never knew they distilled anything other than the agave until I got here a couple of weeks ago, this Desert Spoon thingie is quite interesting.

Well then...

I used my caballito and an ounce and a half off a room temp bottle went down smooth as water. I was kind of surprised really, I was expecting a much harsher taste by the semi medicinal scent I first got off the glass, it was easy on the tongue with only a mild alcohol burn at the very end and on the back of my tongue. You can definitely tell it isn't a Tequila. I had another one to see if I can pick out some of the subtle flavors and really, at the moment, I got nothing but slight citrusy after taste as I sit here and write. I'll have another in just a little while, I'll let you know.

I do notice a very pronounced 'creeper' effect (heh, really I would only expect maybe 10% of any forum to know what I'm talking about :P ) however and I find that kinda bugs me as you could toss down three or four without a thought and not have it hit you for a little while. Moderation...

All in all, not a bad buy for something I wouldn't have normally picked up without learning just a little about it here first.

Thanks guys, so far it is a pleasant afternoon.

Default Re: Sotol Plata HDC

I really like Sotol HDC...for the price I cant find anything better (Even Jose Cuervo costs just as much as the reposado here). I can get the plata for 21, Rep for 25, and Anejo for 32....just recently they have come out with an Extra Anejo and an Anejo with Gold Flakes in it called Oro Puro....I am yet to see these 2 on the shelves here though.

My personal favorite is the reposado so if you get daring and want to try something else on the line; I would try that. The Plata makes some great margaritas as well. Mr. A did some "self-aging" with the plata...I think the results were good so its something else to look into.
