Default History on Porfidio

Glad I found this little Tequila spot online.

I was hoping that someone could help me out with some history about the Porfidio line.

So many people tell me how great it is, that it was the best but now you can't find it. I know several people forking over $300 per bottle for the ones they can find with the green cactus (anejo) inside.

What's the story? Were they legit? I also heard something about it being distilled in Puerto Vallarta?

Any help is appreciated.

It is a long story, and much speculation. All I can say is that the tequila in the early bottles that actually say TEQUILA on them is excellent. Most of the newer bottles now say they are from Tequila, Jalisco on the front label as Porfidio is no longer allowed to call their product Tequila due to "who knows what".

So to me, anything you see now in stores or at duty free shops is an Agave product, which can't technically be called Tequila as nobody really knows where it is coming from.

Everybody I know that has gone by the Distillery in Puerto Vallarta says that the grounds are covered with weeds and it looks like it has been closed up for quite some time. I've read it several places online as well.

Mystery spirit, no idea what you are buying and what you are drinking.

I was just there in PV and no way they are producing something inside, it is all run down, looks abandoned.

What about before the shutdown?

Was the tequila that good or just a marketing thing like Patron Silver.

It was great in my opinion. The single barrel anejo was one of my favs.

I had some Porfidio once that was in a blue round bottle. Not sure which type is was but I thought it tasted pretty good. It was expensive, I do remember that.

That is the reposado, deep blue ceramic bottle. Getting harder to find these now.

I had a shot of the blanco on friday and it wasn't worth the $12. No body at all, seemed watered down.
