Default Oro Azul Reposado.

I just scored a 750mL bottle of Oro Azul and am getting ready to pour a snifter. Any of you tried this?

I'll let you know how it goes.

Inexpensive?

Where do you draw the line on that one? $46 with tax out the door, I mean we're not over the century mark but fifty bucks is fifty bucks.

I need some advice on the proper way to taste a Tequila, glassware, temperature and such to let me really find the flavors. I'm new at this you know, up until a few months ago I used to buy Hornitos for the buzz.

But lets give it a shot...

I've only had a couple of snifters from a near room temperature bottle (although room temp right now is close to 90 degrees) and it has nice smooth entry with a sort of numbing feel on the tongue, spicy and slightly woody with a mean burn at the end and a slight aftertaste on the back of the tongue. Perhaps if I chill it some I'll be able to pick out some more of the subtleties of the flavor. All in all, it's got a good beat and its easy to dance to Dick, I give it a 75...

I saw it for 37.99, not cheap....but compared to other premiums on the market, I find it inexpensive. My roommate paid for our bottle tonight and he went with Casa Noble Rep instead, so I may be getting the Oro Azul in the couple next times I head to the store.

As for chilling the tequila, I think it takes away from a lot of flavors...I typically like my tequilas at room temperature right off of the bar. When you get it cold, I think some of your senses are dulled when the drink is poured back. When I taste quality tequila I generally sip 1.5-2 oz's out of a Riedel Tequila Glass which can be purchased at Target. I was lucky to find 4 on clearance for about 10.00 but the regular price is around 35-40.00. I try to make the couple ounces last about 3-4 sips, but sometimes I cant help myself and I take it all or in 2 drinks.

Digging up an old thread here, but I hate to start a new one if one already exists. And seeing how it has been a few years since the original post, maybe folks can contribute more of an opinion now.

I got Oro Azul blanco and really liked it, so next trip I got the repo. It's not bad at all, but I am suspicious of flavor addtitives. Maybe my palate is becoming more sensitive to these extra flavors now. I've been on a blanco kick lately, and then when I step up to a repo of the same line I start tasting something more. Maybe it's just the wood, but it has taken me back a little.

I truly think this is a good repo, but wondering if others can comment on it for comparison.

We both like the whole Oro Azul lineup. It's from 1079 which does a couple others that we really like, like Aha Toro and the original 1921. Overall, a good one that we will keep a constant in our stash. But $46 for the repo seems a bit much. Hi Times has that lineup at $26, $30 and $40 for the b, r, and a.
Also, we usually taste at room temp. It gets cold here in the winter and places down here aren't too well insulated so sometimes our tequilas would get cooled off a bit, and even that little bit of chill from the air for us dulled the flavors out. We definitely like it a more mean temp than cold. We use mini snifter glasses also, get a nice nose off of them out of those glasses.
