I'd stay away from Porfidio the new stuff is a gamble from what I hear. If you 100% sure you have your sights on an older bottle then give it a go.
As far as ET over DJ 1942. Thats actually a hard question..... I love them both but i find almost everyone loves DJ 1942, where as ET paradiso is more of an aquired taste. People either love it or hate it, or should I say love it or learn to love it. I have a bottle and the first taste of it I was not impressed, but the more i go back to it the more I love it. So in my mind either one is a great pick, and if you don't do it now then you should definately try both of these Tequilas someday soon. ETP, I think I read somewhere that it is aged a total of 5 years in once used Cognac barrels. "its distinct, Cognac-barrel aging process" from the site. It is definately labeled as an Extra anejo now. Elsewher in articles I have read this on ETP "aged first in Bourbon barrels, then in barriques that previously housed fine Cognac, seeing a total of five years in wood" This article also states that there is a bit of fine French Cognac blended in, I think this is a misunderstanding and that Carlos had help with the process from someone in the Cognac industry, but its 100% Tequila in the bottles. From the whiskey exchange "Paradiso - Deliciously smooth. Created by Don Felipe Camarena and Alain Royer of A. de Fussigny Cognac, this unique, handcrafted blend of 100% blue agave tequilas takes on a remarkable elegance from its distinct, Cognac-barrel aging process." |

Go for the DJ 1942, you won't be sorry, and look around you can find it on sale.
Before Christmas my local liquor store had it on sale for $59.95. Check out Sam's Club, here in Juarez they have it for $89.99 normal price. I heard the have it at Sam's Club in El Paso, but I don't go there so I don't know for sure. |

I found it for 119.99 in Waco, we have one store that carries it. Unless it is under 75.00, then its not really worth the drive or shipment. Although if I could find it for 59.99 like you did, itd be worth ordering more than one!
And thank you wichie for that information. I know the beverage tasting institute gave El Tesoro a 98...but they never really seem to know too much :P

Paradiso will taste differently than what you are used to in an anejo. It's a great product, but it has some heavy flavors. 1942 is light and crisp. Both would be great additions, but ultimately it will come down to what you want. They are so different. Pick a direction and go for it.

Absolutely can't go wrong with DJ 1942... one of my favorites. I see on Ebay every now and again someone selling DJ 1942 for $90 + shipping, that is the lowest I have seen.
Another tequila in that range would be the 4Copas anejo...another good bang for the buck. You know you are starting to go down a path that is very hard to get off of....Beware of the Tequila God named "Mucho Dinero Goneo"
