Default I'm glad I don't live in Utah

Stronger drinks to be available in Utah, but...

The amount of liquor allowed in the standard cocktail will increase from 1 ounce to 1.5 ounces. That's the standard used in most other states and countries.

Currently, customers can order an additional 1 ounce shot known locally as a sidecar to pour into their drinks. That is being eliminated.

Customers will still be able to order shots while they have a drink on the table, but only if it is of a liquor that's not already in their drink.

That means customers drinking a margarita couldn't order a shot of tequila, but take shots of vodka.

Frequently, a group of customers at a table will order the same shot to drink together.

Bartenders and waiters will now have to keep track of what liquor is already in each customer's drink before they can serve up the shot.

Ridiculous!

That's crazy. What a bummer for them. Sounds like you have to come up with a strategic plan to enjoy dinner with drinks, or just have a few drinks.

Absolutely makes no sense ...liquor is liquor, so if they allow it then they should not make rules on how you should enjoy it. Can't imagine who thought this up and why.
I travel quite a bit and do business with a few companies from Utah and when the natives of Utah are outside there state and religion, the gloves come off and they drink as much as the next guy.

I'm thoroughly confused. You can order a margarita and a "side shot" of vodka. But you cannot order a margarita and a "side shot" of tequila?

Can you order 2 shots of tequila, some lime juice, and a glass of ice?

Sometimes people just make stupid laws for the sake of making stupid laws

Yep, your sidecar cannot match the liquor in your drink. I have no idea why anyone would come up with something that, I see no sense to it whatsoever. I would doubt that any liquor store or bar in Utah has more than 2 or 3 tequila selections anyways. :-\

I didnt even really think that there are bars or clubs in Utah anyways

...just a whole lotta pretty nothingness.

I wonder if you could order a margarita and a shot of sotol or mezcal on the side...kinda beat the system and still get an agave product. Then again...you may not get to find much Sotol or Mezcal up there

About the only thing that makes sense about it is that is was probably created by politicians some of whom seem to have a dual goal of making things more messed up and adding additional confusion along the way.
