Default Casa Noble Reposado

Ever since I saw the special on the Discovery Channel (it may have been another one of those educational channels)
about 100% Blue Agave Tequila, I have been determined to find out what is the best 100% Blue Agave Tequila available. I have been researching the Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo's.

I have purchased and sampled many of these. I would like to get an educated and/or expert opinion of the best 100% Blue Agave Tequilas of each variety and the best for the price.

What is the best for the money?

You can view top rated tequilas on TEQUILA.net from the following links based on member reviews. Best for the money? Depends on what your budget allows for, but I get excited if a bottle is under $50. But the average is going up now with all of the extra anejos and "super-premium" products.

Best bang for the buck in my opinion is Fina Estampa, Sol Azul, El Tesoro, 1921, HDC Sotol, Chinaco, Don Valente, and Casa Noble

Reposados, are a very hard category to pick from, it's just so hard to get a reposado just right, but Mr A is right on his selections, in reposados it's all about the timing, you take it out to early from the barrell, and you lose some characteristics, you leave it in too long, and you overdo the vital elements that are supposed to bring out the key characterisitcs of a well balalnced reposado, and Mr. A hit it dead on with Fina Estampa, Don Valente, and especially Casa Noble and El Tesoro, these are all very good reposados, i would throw in Don Eduardo Repo, El Mayor, 4 Copas, and the newest ones to the bunch that i have recently tasted Agave Dos Mil, and Baluarte.

Everyone is going to have an opinion here. I, personally, don't like Don Ed.

Reposado is definitely the hardest to get right. My favorite repo is Penca Azul. A bottle will run you $90, but they really hit the mark. 4 Copas is also excellent.

My 2 favorite blancos are Casa Noble and Don Fulano.

Anejos? They range in price and flavors so much that you can't really go by what anyone else likes. Start with the basics - Chinaco, 4 Copas, Don Julio 1942, Paradiso. Start figuring out what YOU like. Lighter and sweeter? Full bodied and bold oakiness?

For me, I actually started drinking the REALLY expensive anejos first. HSS, Real, Rey Sol, Chinaco Negro, Gran Centenario Extra, etc...

Then once you start identifying the flavors that you like, you can start looking for those flavors in the less expensive tequilas. I also moved backwards from anejos to reposados to blancos. I didn't really start appreciating good blancos until maybe a month or so ago. I now find myself drinking blancos more than the others. (although if you can find a repo with the perfect balance, it's a great, great thing)

I just don't know that many good tequilas under $50. You say that you are looking for the best tequila for the money. But it takes time to grow the agave and let it mature. And any process that speeds up the fermentation will certainly effect the final product. Time = money, and any good tequila takes time to make.

I would say that HSS (Herradura Suprema) is one of the best tequilas for the money. It's $350 a bottle, (anywhere from $35-$60 a shot in a bar) but it's worth it.

A wonderful Reposado for under $50 is Revolucion.
FYI, you are paying to much at $350 a bottle for HSS. Should be $300 or less.

Lance

You can catch them on eBay for 180-200 a bottle all the time. PM me and I will let you know the reputable sellers. ALSO ......

Stay away from the newer HSS. A Birdie told me that the original batch of HSS should have run out about 6-9 months ago (the master distiller responsible for the blend - Sebastain - is no longer there ....... Many of us have noticed a SIGNIFICANT change in quality.
