I happen to like it, thought I might not be the only one.

I'll never tell anyone what they should or shouldn't like.
But I personally also simply dislike Corzo.
I kept giving it a chance, tried the anejo 3 different times over a year period and flat out couldn't stand it each time. I found it to have a harsh rubbing alcohol scent and taste with a bit of oak barely hanging on. I found it a chore to get it down.

I only post my opinion because someone is looking for a recommendation for a Tequila and if she is riding the fence on buying one or another, an additional opinion may help.

As for other recommendations I can only pretty much agree with the usual failsafes (generally speaking) : any Casa Noble and Clase Azul

Jason, I also agree with your comment about Corzo. I too found it to have a harse alcohol taste, a dry taste to me. I gave it two tries, this tequila is not for me.

The price point on Corzo has always been a deterrent for me. And although I have not tasted it myself, my girlfriend also had a negative experience. As much as I love diversity and having an extensive collection, I have chosen to pass on Corzo.

This "harshness" is news to me, I keep passing on it because I had heard it is very mild, and at the $35-40 price point I passed. I do like the Gran centenario anejo I have (green label), and though the Tenampa azul silver and repo have very unusual flavors I have grown to like them. I just haven't pulled the trigger to try the next step up the ladder, and I guess I am glad I didn't.

I'd suggest an assortment of mid range bottles instead of exclusive single barrels etc or XAs - stretch out that $300. Casa Noble,Don Pilar,Fortaleza,Tapatio, Ocho, Excellia, Muchote, Siembra Azul (heck any NOM1414 product), t1 Uno, Don Modesto, Alquilma, older round bottles of Centinela (if out there), Calle 23....
    This is a lovely list.

I would recommend Tapatio and Ocho for your husbands, he would definitely appreciate them, they are high quality tequilas.
