Question Cheap tequila prices in Jalisco ?

I was at a relatives house yesterday & we where discussing tequila prices. They said that some tequilas are cheaper in other states or other countries than in Mexico! I dont get it! If anybody in Jalisco or in the vecinities that can help answer this question, I would like a response from you! Is this a true statement? about tequila been cheaper in other states or other countries? If this is true, How could it be? you can't get labor any cheaper than Mexico? I was just about to ask any tequilero friends in the net, that live in the state of Jalisco, about a bottle of tequila TRES MUJERES extra anejo. I hear that a bottle in Jalisco runs about $55 US dollars. Is this true? Is there large liquorerias like HI TIME out there
that you can buy tequila at good prices [affordable] not tourist prices! I would appreciate some feedback from any of you guys that can help!Gracias!!

I just came back from a trip to Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
I always look for tequila in bars and stores when traveling. I was very surprised to find Don Julio Anejo in Uruguay, which is somewhat of a poor country for $40 a bottle. Same bottle in Rio was $60 and Buenos Aries was $45. I pay between $45 and $50 here in Calif.

It amazes me, how a bottle can be shipped all the way to South America and either be the same price or less than here in Calif. I would imagine import taxes and other taxes are the driving force in price of a bottle from country to country and state to state.

Some countries have funny prices. For example Australia has Don Julio Anejo priced at $100 AUD at most stores. Here in Poland it's just under $100. It would be nice to have to prices you get in Calif.

Liquor prices have a notoriously high markup. Brand like Tierras can vary from $20 at Hi Time to $45 other places. Same goes for many other brands. That's why it pays to shop around online. I've found Casa Noble Repo for as cheap as $35 online and as high as $60 other places.

The best buys that you're going to get in Mexico will probably be at stores that don't cater to tourists. Much like a downtown liquor store in big cities will be 15-30% more because of overhead and demand merits that they can charge a premium, places in more tourist type areas will do the same.

My guess is that you'll have the best luck with brands that are obscure (and have little tourist demand) in Mexico and shops off the beaten path. Otherwise you're just better off buying online and avoiding the transport hassle of getting them home.

well in general, prices are not determined by costs. it's supply and demand. If they can get 40 Uruguay they're not going to charge more than in CA just because it costs more to ship it to there. (and let it just sit on shelves)

In Rio there is a much higher demand for the DJA so it costs more.

That said, tequila prices tend to be a bit on the funky side, especially in out-of-the-way locations. Tons of regional descrepancies

Question Cheap tequila prices

You're absolutely right on how prices vary! A month ago I went to rosarito & bought 2 bottles of
DJ anejo blanco for $32 each bottle! seen how expensive it is at other places,
makes want to go back & buy a couple more bottles!

Last year I saw El Charro in SC for $14, and at the same time liters of it online from Merwin's for $40 (this eventually came down to $19). So sometimes the price can vary widely even within the US.

I live in Merida, Yucatan. The best deal right now is at many of the local big grocery stores, 2 bottles of Don Roberto tequila (some 2 packs are one blanco and one reposado, some are 2 bottles of reposado) for 99 pesos, that's under $8 Canadian for the 2 pack. The blanco is average at best but the reposado is very acceptable and great in margaritas.

Don Julio Anejo ranges from just under 400 pesos on sale to about 475 pesos, thats about $30-38 Canadian.
