Question Tequila OCHO question ?

My question on tequila OCHO is, how do you know whether you have a bottle from the highland or the lowland? does it state in the bottle wich part of the region that bottle came from? and why would you want to change your formula? why confuse the consumer! It is bad enough trying to control the consistensy on a good brand of tequila, let alone on trying to control the taste on 2 different regions! I don't get it!!

Personally I think it's really amazing. The way you can taste the difference from one estate to the other. Each have there own flavor profile and that is fun part of trying the different one's. Then you stock up on the one's you really like.

It does state on the bottle where it comes from...actually on the back. The front of the bottle has the estate (rancho) listed and the year. On the back of the bottle is a narrative about the ranch - where it is located, the elevation, the shape of the plot of land, the type of soil, etc. It's neat because it's a hand-written note, or a copy of someone's hand written note.

It's an experiment in terrior, which is the way French wines are denoted. Tomas Estes wanted to do it, and he partnered with Felipe Camarena to make it happen. They are both giants in the industry, so everything is well done and high quality.

They are not trying to 'control the taste', and that's the point. They want the taste from each estate to stand on its own...speak for itself. These bottles (the most desirable ones) may become vintage, highly desired collectibles...not that mine will last that long! It may be that a 2010 Los Corrales blanco becomes highly sought after some day...or just take your pick of another. You get the idea. There won't another tequila produced from each estate for another 10 years!

Definitely a different concept, but these guys like to test boundaries and push the envelope. Also, their reposados and anejos are very light compared to others. They age in barrels that have been used several times already, so the aging only provides a kiss of the wood and charcoal that normally comes with an aged tequila. The more times a barrel is used, the less impact it has on the spirit.

Obviously I'm a fan, but the variations in taste from the different estates might not appeal to everyone. And it's a little pricey, so you do take a bit of a chance if you are looking for a consistent palate experience.

Thumbs up Tequila OCHO question ?

I was at Hi time liquor today, and met Dave Dinni [distributor for Ocho tequila] & started to tell him about
tequila OCHO and all this confussion about the high land & lowlands. He said
that this is a highland tequila just 3to 4 thosand miles apart. different soils
to get different taste. I forgot to ask him how do you know the difference in the bottle. is it stated in the bottle wich region that bottle came from? to make a long story short I did not buy a bottle of OCHO instead I bought a bottle of MUCHOTE reposado I been enjoying this bottle as I speak, I've only had 3 or 4 drinks & It has already given me hell of a buzz! I really like this tequila!! Believe me for the price you can't beat it! Salud!! can't wait to taste
PURA VIDA anejo tommorow! If it is any good as this MUCHOTE reposado then
I am going to have a MUCHO goodtime drinking this tequila! But for today I am going to enjoy this bottle of MUCHOTE!! again "salud" anybody that has'nt tasted
this tequila, this has got to be the best $25 I've spent!!

The vintage is shown on the bottom label of Ocho bottles, you can see the year and the location / field.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have found out that the red 8 bottles are indeed the same juice. I wasn't sure as the market I've found them in was Australia. Also, that they came in 500ml bottles and only the blanco and rep. Apparently the anejo and EA are in the regular US bottles. So may have a line on them down here, here's to hoping.
I myself love the idea of showing terroir in tequila. I'm excited to try a different vintage and see how the difference is. I think it's a great idea. My wife and I actually REALLY enjoy the blanco. One of our favs.

I also think that the idea of adding a vintage and territory is awesome. I just didn't particularly care for the 2010 Los Mangos.

Oh well, I haven't given up on the brand at all.
