Default 16 year old tequila (potentially)

Howdy folks. I'm brand new to the the forum and almost as new to tequila. I've recently begun drinking mezcal at the Green Russell here in Denver, CO. When I mentioned this to my mother, she gave me an unopened bottle of tequila that her and my grandmother purchased in Chihuahua in the 80's. The label came off the bottle long ago, but the lid is stamped with "PEDRO DOMECQ" and "MEXICO", above and below the same logo shown on the Casa Pedro Domecq website (Crest featuring knights helmet, sword, and two hands). The bottom of the bottle has the same text, but also features the numbers 29 and 85, separately. The lid also contains some sort of rattle device, and there is a little bit of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Sorry for the low quality pictures, and I couldn't capture any clear pictures of the bottom of the bottle. Anyone know anything about this tequila?

Question 16 year old tequila

in response to your thread of this 16 year old bottle. How sure are you that this is a tequila bottle? The reason I am asking is because Pedro Domecq, is a brand that makes Brandy! And was very popular 20 years ago. hope this helps out!

Well, I'm really not sure at all, just going on what my mother told me. That being said, my mother and grandmother are not the most reliable sources when it comes to spirits!

Assuming it is tequila, any thoughts as to whether or not it's going to be any good to drink? The bottle is unopened and has been kept refrigerated for most of the time since the purchase.

Thanks for your reply, btw

It's 40% alcohol! It's safe to drink. The more important question is how will it taste? It may be "corked," it may have lost all its fire and charm. But safe? Absolutely.

Any spirit will cease to 'age' once it is in the glass, aging is a process where the liquor develops characteristics derived from contact with the wood barrels, glass does nothing to aid this process. Once bottled it is as good as it is ever going to be...

While I've always believed that;

Malt Maniacs #111 - About single malt whisky (just a bit down the page).

offers some interesting thoughts to the contrary.
