Thumbs up The value of tequila?

I have a question for mr. agave or any senior tequila afficionados.
Do any of you guys treat your tequila collection as an investment?
has the value of your collection increased in the past 5 years?
I am a newby to the teqila collection hobby!
I am enjoying buying new bottles, seen my collection grow. but I am finding
myself wanting more & more bottles. has this ever happened to any of you guys? everytime I go to buy more bottles, I end up spending more than I had
budgetted! the way that I console myself is by saying what the hell, If I am
enjoying this hobby & it makes me feel good doing it. I say "you only live once en la vida" so enjoy the moment!! the value is not always meausured in
money. But how you live your life. so I try to live life to its fullest value, been happy with myself. "Salud ala vida"

I started my collection a few years back and have around 300 bottles.I started soon after I retired and my wife told me to get a hobby.I'm sure she wishes that she hadn't said that.I'm not worried about the value of the collection but I'm sure my kids are.

I was going at it pretty hard core for many years, but I've slowed down the past couple. Mostly because I ran out of room and I didn't want to be on that hoarder show.

I don't really look at my collection as an investment, hopefully some of it will be worth more than what I paid, but I'm also looking forward to cracking some of the older stuff 10 or 20 years from now and on special occasions.

Start keeping track of your collection now, it's nice to have it all listed in a database that you can access while shopping.

If you want access to the collectors area to store your bottle info let me know.

I eventually have drank everything I've bought. Even the stuff I was buying as an "investment". There are only a few real collectible bottles out there that have made a rare few a couple extra dollars but we're not talking coins here. Tequila is meant to to sipped and enjoyed. Why deny yourself the best juice when as you say life is short.

The only investment I make with regard to tequila is in my happiness and pleasure. It's not just about the bottles and the juice, there's the fun of researching, reading forums, learning from other folks' experiences, and of course, The Hunt!

El Grano, I hear you on wanting more bottles - I actually decorate with my bottles, I have a nice display of Clase Azul Platino (silver/white), Casa Noble Single Barrel Anejo (black/silver), Asombroso (phallic crystal), as well as a talavera skull in black and white, and two Riedels ready to go, on a silver tray. For a bit of colour, I added a bright red Aha Toro Anejo - looks great in my kitchen and reminds me of Mexico. (Kitchen is black/white/silver/red). The Espolons are on a b & w Moroccan pattern tray, accompanied by a Crystal Head Vodka -- the etchings and the skull look great together, and the CH vodka package came with 2 skull shot glasses. Hoping to pick up a Chamucos Blanco soon on a trip, as that would look great next to the new versions of Espolon.

Why lock up my treasure hoard, I thought? Put it out and enjoy it - like Grano says, You only live once. I'm planning to put in a floor-to-ceiling glass cabinet in the kitchen so I can really show off the rest, esp the tall bottles like DJ 1942 and Clase Azul Repo (and God willing, someday, the Ultra!!!)

El grano....it sounds like you have the bug and boy are you in for trouble.

I started 15 plus years ago buying 2 bottles of everything I came across...one to drink and one to keep as part of a collection. After 15+ years and 600 bottles later, I gave up. There are too many new brands coming out and the price has gone way up, plus I too ran out of room even after building a tequila bar.
I did not create my collection for investment reasons, more because I really enjoyed tequila. However, since I have stopped collecting and started selling off my bottles, I am pleasantly surprised to find that some of the bottles have become quite collectible and worth considerable more than what I paid, but it is like anything else, there needs to be a buyer willing to pay you.

Be careful in you collecting, is addictive
