Default Is Tequila DeLeón serious with this claim?

Tequila Made to Ruin You For All Others | Food Republic

I searched the forums but there's very minimal reviews (I'm guessing b/c of the price). They must have some pretty large cojones over there to say such a thing. Anyone agree or disagree with what they're saying?

Most brand owners feel that their product is the best out there, similar to the way every parent feels that their baby is the cutest.

But here in the real world, everyone has a different palate, which makes for many favorites. And even when you have a favorite, revisiting it on an off night can leave you confused.

I've had the DeLeon Blanco and the Reposado, and I didn't feel the urge to give up on any other brands. I would like to sample that cask strength extra anejo, but I won't be shelling out $250 in the hopes that it is "off the hook".

I tried the Repo and thought it was alright.
It was smooth with no alcohol burn, but I also found it thin on feel and flavor.

The bottle is real nice looking and I have a feeling most of the price is there.

Funny article. I heard that this is a big celebrity tequila now, likely only because of the high price, so they can say they're getting 'the best, most expensive tequila out there.' Notice that they digged DJ. As long as they don't bad-mouth Patron, they may make it in that high-end market.

I was going to post pretty much the same thing yesterday, at least about not wanting to try it (since I don't have a store.)

If you look in the right places, you will find Reserva de Mexico. This is the other brand that comes out of the same distillery (NOM 1519) as DeLéon, and at 1/4th the price. Since it is a product for the Mexican market, I'm willing to bet it has a lot more flavor and character than DeLéon. Oh, and I call BS on that dude having visited around 100 tequila distilleries.

I dont see the reason for the uproar. It is an American marketer marketing his product. As mentioned, of course he thinks his product is the best. Why would anyone venture into any business without thinking they are going to be the best at it?

My personal take is that he diverted from simply heralding his own brand and chose to downgrade another. If anyone's product is so great, they shouldnt need to badmouth another.
For instance, I think Asombroso is a fantastic product, but they spend all their time and effort saying how they are better than patron. 1800 does the same, but I hate their product and disagree, I like Patron better (though cannot say I actually like it).

This is just American marketing geared towards the general American consumer, not towards tequila lovers. Afterall, it is all business. Without sales, there's no money - no money, no business and no product.

What should matter, beyond any advertising or bottle shape, is whether one likes the product or not. If you dont like it, then fine, there is no obligation to. But I dont see the point of denying myself a product I enjoy because of an advertisement, interview or bottle.

Now an outrageous price tag on the other-hand ...

Jason- I don't see any uproar... all I see is the OP's questioning a producer's claims.

In my case, the high price [for an unproven tequila] turned me off... aesthetics will only do so much for me.
