Default Cabo San Lucas/San Jose del Cabo tequila shops

Booked a visit to a resort midway between the two towns for December 2011 - anyone know the area that could recommend some good tequila shops? I'm talking a wide selection of high-end or obscure tequilas; I can get Cuervo mixto anywhere (and I still choose not to!). My tastes run to CN, Clase Azul, Chamucos, and I am always looking for Mexico-only tequilas. Any and all suggestions welcomed!

PS Best part? Travel partner has donated their allotment to me. Oh yeah!

Haven't been to Cabo for a few years, but on the way into Cabo, on the right hand side of the road there was a larger liquor store that carried a variety of tequila. There was also a small liquor store towards the very end of the main street of Cabo that had a large selection. Not sure if they are still there or not.

Unfortunately, the pricing is bumped up for the tourists. Last time there, a bottle of DJ Anejo was $85.

On a side note, there is a wonderful Mexican resturant called "Panchos" on a side street in Cabo. They have a very large selection of tequila and great food.

Have fun

I have discovered that Puerto Paraiso Mall in CSL has both a Hacienda Tequila Factory and a La Europea. Spent a fun half an hour going through their offerings. I know in Playa del Carmen they had the cheapest price on Xtabentun, 8.00 for 750 ml when all the others were 11.00 USD for the same size.

La Europea - Vinos, licores y alimentos gourmet en México. - hopefully this will link to their 500 tequila selections. Not sure the date of these prices either, so be aware these could be outdated prices.

Had such a great time just thinking about tequila stores that I had to have some Espolon Repo - it's got the citrus built right in, and has a nice every day taste - when I'm having no cravings for CN or Clase Azul.

Check out the new Vinoteca store right next to Home Depot. Some different brands than Europea and probably closer to where you are staying if you are in between the two cities. Excellent selection of other spirits and wine as well.

For tasting tequila, I think the best restaurant/bar is Habanero's in San Jose. Excellent food as well! Their "sister" restaurant is Don Sanchez in San Jose and they have excellent drink specials every night. They do a "half-price on any tequila" night but I can't remember what day of the week it is.

Enjoy!!

Just a few more days til my first trip to Cabo. Rest assured, Tequila Netters, that I will photograph and document pricing at all the various places that sell tequila. (I've done this for Cuban rum on a different forum). Always helpful to know prices when budgeting for a trip. My budget will include Fortaleza/Los Abuelos Reposado, Chamucos, Centinela, Tapatio, Los Tres Tonos, Casa Noble Repo and hopefully some new faves. I also like to pick up 50 ml sizes for 5-8 bones, as they make a fun evening of taste testing on these long winter nights.

And I'll have to hit Cabo Wabo, just cuz it's Cabo, and pick up a T-shirt or two.

Be sure to try Siete Leguas (seven leagues) tequila. Apparently they are the original maker of Patron before Patron went big.

Thank you kindly for the good wishes, I'm just having a pre-trip celebratory Casa Noble Reposado. Cannot wait to go shopping! I've got my bag packed, with two empty Rubbermaid containers full of bubble wrap .... Yeah, we've all been there.

Trip went well and I am glad I packed the Rubbermaid (TM) boxes - lady next to me on the plane had all her tequila bottles broken. Booze crime! Tequila Town's Pablo wrapped each bottle in heavy bubble wrap and tape, and then I wove extra packaging around the bottles before sealing the tub with tape.

I was not impressed with the selection at Hacienda Tequila at Puerto Paraiso - basically just a selection of Especial, Kahlua and Manana, although they were clearing out Don Ramon at 9.00 USD a bottle, or 2 x 15USD. The Hacienda Tequila Factory in Playa del Carmen's Fifth Avenue has a HUGE selection with good prices, so I was disappointed with Cabo's version, although it was assuaged when I saw La Europea. BIG selection, but still no Fortaleza. I asked everywhere and nobody had it, same with Tapatio.

If you ever stay at Dreams Los Cabos, the hotel has Herradura Blanco, Especial (gak!), Jose Cuervo Tradicional, Hornitos, Don Ramon, and Don Julio. They were out of Fresca one day for a Paloma, so I said mix 1/3 grapefruit juice and 1/3 Sprite and 1/3 Herradura Blanco - it was delicious. Also, 1/3 of it was actually healthy, so yeah, good times.
