Default The best tequila from Guadalajara?

hello....

My pop is going to guadalajara this weekend and my uncle owns a liquor store in Sapopan. I believe he will be allowed to bring back 8 bottles. he's bringing me back 4 bottles of the best tequila produced in the town my father is from. The other 4 I would like to get some suggestions from the experts on this Forum. So any recommendations are welcomed thanks!

Tapatio is always a good tequila that you cannot get here.I would also suggest the Tres Mujeres and also the Arette Artesenals. By the way, if you live in California your dad should be able to bring in more than just 8 bottles. The only thing is that you only get one liter per adult duty free and the rest you are supposed to pay the duty tax. I have gone to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta the past 3 years and I have brought back 12, 14, and 14 bottles respectively. Just make sure you keep your receipts and declare them on the form. I have been lucky and have not had to pay any tax, I just got waved on through at customs. Since your uncle owns a liquor store have him dummy up the receipt, so that the value is not too high, just in case you do need to pay the duty tax. Make sure your dad wraps the bottle up good so as to prevent breakage.

As to brands, I agre with raiderj16's suggestions, but since you have a family connection, I would encourage you to have your father taste as many as possible at your uncle's place and bring back what he likes/thinks you'll like.

Regarding the limit on bottles: what hasn't been mentioned here is that the strictest limit comes from the airlines themselves. That is generally 5 liters, and they search all checked bags in your presence at GDL. I regularly talk them into allowing many more, but they have gotten stricter and I have seem them make people leave bottles. Caveat emptor.

I had some Los Tres Tonos anejo last night - very much like a single malt, you can taste the oak. Worth asking for, and it's about 45 US. Great looking bottle as well.

I am dying to hear what the 4 best bottles from your father's hometown are. And please post what else your uncle sent you as well - I never get tired of tequila talk.
