Default Corralejo Blanco

Picked up a bottle of CB this weekend while visiting the folks. It's been on my radar for some time now, so I picked it up for $30, which seems like a decent price (oddly enough, the rep was even cheaper by $1!).

Anyway, so far I'm diggin it. I just finished a bottle of CNC, so that is where my comparison lies naturally. This is not as smooth as the CN, which makes sense being a double vs. triple distilled tequila, and it makes it's presence known sliding down your gut! Wow - it is pretty spicy and on the warm side of the temperature gauge, but after the absolute smoothness of the CN, it is a welcome trait that doesn't really bother me. The overall taste is quite good also - it has a nice fresh agave presence. Where it lacks compared to the CN is the "layers" of complexity and the finish. The CN keeps you guessing, even after the fact, but the CB seems to just sort of end without any special fireworks. A bit disappointing in the finish, but again this doesn't break the deal for me by any means.

We'll see how it treats me after a few nights. but for now I'm glad I tried it and it seems to be a classic macho blanco!

ps - I drinka bit of 1800 silver last night at my brother-in-laws - - - - that stuff has the worst nose I think i have smelled on any silver and the taste wasn't much better. 100% agave, but close to 100% crap IMO.

You are learning Chalkpie. 1800 is a Jose Cuervo product.
There is nothing more to say.

chalkpie,
Are you a bureaucrat? We talk in acronyms all the time (lol). So I can figure out what CB is, but how am supposed to know what CNC is when there are almost 200 distilleries and several hundred brands? Help, Mr. Wizard!!!

Default It's all good

I just picked up a bottle of Corralejo Blanco 750ml on sale at Raley's/Bel Air for $18. I generally stick with the Reposados, but for $18 I couldn't resist. Now you have me curious to try the Casa Noble and compare them. I'll look for that next. Shot on!

Their repo has always gotten good marks. I like it more than their blanco.

I know Corralejo comes in those long skinny bottles, clear for blanco, blue for repo, but there is also a differently-shaped Corralejo triple-distilled bottle - it is like a flattened round disk, in blue glass. When people talk about Corralejo, do they refer to the tall thin bottle or the flattened one? I bought a 200 ml of Repo, and was not that enamoured of it. Bought at the same time Quita Penas - tasted like "pinche putas"!

I was referring to the tall blue bottle repo. I always thought the round one was a añejo, but it too is a repo, the difference being the triple distillation. Their high end "extra" (2 yr.) añejo is the Gran Corralejo in the 1L crown shaped bottle. I have never tried either of these two but have not heard as many good comments about either. Their standard añejo is in the tall red bottles which was an enjoyable añejo.
