My girlfriend is going on a cruise and she and her father want to bring a bottle of tequila back from mexico for me. For anyone who has been, are there any suggestions of good ones that are not found here in the US? I live in Fort Myers, FL so I still can't even get ones like Penca Azul over here.

I know that this thread has been dead for a while but I finally get to go on my first cruise in a week. As we will be going to cozumel, I again need to get suggestions on what to get there. I have been looking at Arette Unique, 4 Copas Anejo, Penca Azul Reposado, and Herradura Seleccion Suprema. I'm not sure of the prices of any of these or if there is something better (or more resonable) I should be looking for so feel free to toss out suggestions. Also, if you happen to know relative prices of any of them please let me know.

TvJefe,
From what I am told you can get the Unique at the distillery for $40. I have not been there yet but I did buy a bottle for $40 from someone who did go there. Just a heads up that you can get 2 for the price you are paying (maybe the info will give you a little barginning power). |

I just came back from PV and went to about a dozen different tequila stores. I would say that the prices ranged from 50% less than the States to the same price as in the States. You can offer less in the smaller stores and they will usually work with you. My suggestion is to do your home work and know the pricing of what you are looking for before you go.

Thanks for the info. As for pricing all I have to go on is what you have suggested as a range. Here in Florida I can't get my hands on much so I havn't had too much experience buying with tequila (although I feel I have a good collection for a 21 yr old.) The 4 copas and Penca azul seem highly reccomended so I doubt I can go wrong with either of those. Does the unique come in a 750ml or are they only sold as 350ml bottles? also, is the HSS worth what you would pay for it in Mexico? I bought a bottle of Cabo Uno here for $230 and while I'm glad I did for the opportunity to try it (and own one of those beautiful crystal bottles) I don't think it is worth anything close to the price. So far my favorite would have to be Milagro select barrel reserve reposado at $70 closely followed by Don Julio 1942 at $130. I'm still open to other suggestions if you have one you think is an important buy for someone who does not visit Mexico but a few times ever.
