I took my first sampling of the Casa Noble 7yr Single Barrel Extra Anejo:
First, the color was especially dark. The initial scent was classic Casa Noble, but a bit more subdued. The taste was similar, it was noticeably more mellow and drier than the 5yr single barrel. It did hold onto the the vanilla and caramel notes. What I did notice in this Tequila that I haven't picked up in any other Casa Noble is an underneath flavor of wood. Not full-fledged oakiness or anything. Just a tinge. It has a full, thick mouthfeel that lingers after the sip is over. As one familiar with Casa Noble would expect, there is absolutely no burn at all and it finishes soft and with the tiniest bit of warmth. I'll probably need to update my thoughts after I try it again next weekend. Now that I have a sense for it I'll be able to concentrate on some of the finer notes. This is a great Tequila - noticeably different than the 5yr. The fact that it sells for the same retail price as the 5yr Single Barrel is a bonus. Folks, I stopped by the shop both last night and tonight and picked up a total of 3 bottles. I was told on Tuesday that they were down to their last 6 cases or so (36 bottles), but that's mainly because they only received half the overall shipment of 300 bottles. The remainder are still in Mexico for some reason, and naturally the store owners are hoping to get them in stock in time for holiday sales.
Also, for those who can get to the store, the Casa Noble blanco has been marked down from $41 to $28. A pretty good deal IMO, since the next cheapest price that I've found is $35 (Hi-Time) and naturally that doesn't include shipping. They had about 3-4 cases on the floor; not sure if they have more for sale at that price. Since the price on the website is still $41, I am assuming that this is an in-store special only. But it wouldn't hurt to ask them if the markdown applies to online orders as well. |

The extra 2 years is very noticeable I thought. Its a little woodier and drier, very rich.
It's good to see so many people getting a hold of this rare opportunity. With it's popularity, maybe they won't hesitate to do something else like this in the near future. |
