You know, I find I enjoy the juice more if I'm not worried about what it's in...

I use small snifters with old schooners etched on the glasses. They are part of a brandy decanter set I was given as a gift 30 years ago. I've never used the decanter, but the snifters are just the right size for sipping tequila .... about 4oz.

I tried a new glass today, the Glencairn Scotch / Whisky glass, at a Tequila / Whiskey / Taco bar. It works quite well, similar shape to the Riedel Sommelier without the stem, and costs about $8 bucks. If you don't care about fingerprints and having your body temp warm up your spirit, this would be a nice alternative to the Riedel Tequila glass.

Another new glass I tried a couple of months ago was the NEAT Glass. This is a lead free crystal, scientifically engineered at UNLV. It is shaped like a little pot still. A unique glass, only downside is that they cost $40 for 2.

I have a Glencairn glass that I use for just sipping, when I don't want to more "formally" taste something new. I do find that it gives very similar nose and taste characteristics as the Riedels, but without the fragility. And I just hold mine at the base so warming is not much of an issue.

We have broken two riedels in the last month. I might have to get a couple of these to replace them with. Thanks for the heads up.

I have Reidels, Caballitos, Glencairns, Snifters and standard shot glasses. I use whatever the occasion calls for. I usually use the Glencairns for scotch, but they work fine for tequila too. Heck, cheap champaign glasses work pretty much the same as a Reidel.

However, like most of the rest of you, I don't really notice the difference in taste, but I do in being able to pick up the scents.

The Glencairn glass seems much more sturdy, those Riedels are fragile. My guests break them often, and then they get demoted to a snifter.

This is very true. And you can get them under $4 each if you buy 6 of them.

I think I'll get some, that's a good price.

Anyone ever try the whisky stones to cool off their beverage?

I have a friend that loves his bourbon. His wife bought him some whiskey stones. He says they cool things down slightly and make the drink look disgusting...but it tastes the same.
