Default High roller sampler at Agave Azul

I want to do this more often but can't seem to force myself to drive 2 hours for good tequila and food. But tonight we celebrated my graduation of a year long training program I've been doing at work.

Agave Azul has unmatched margaritas so I started with the "El Agave Rita", Siete Leagus Blanco, Cointreau, Agave Nectar and fresh squeezed lime juice...on the rocks. This was a perfect margarita. Both the wife and I enjoyed it very much.

After the food was served I decided to request some information about the 12.00 and 25.00 samplers. With the 12.00 you get 4 tequilas of your choice (anything but the ultra premium section) in .5oz pours. My wife decided to get the Siete Leagus Reposado, Don Valente Reposado (who would've guessed that?), and Fina Estampa Reposado. She allowed me to take one of her picks and I got Pura Sangre Anejo.

In order of preference to the three she had: Siete Leagus Reposado, Don Valente Reposado, Fina Estampa Reposado.

In my "ultra-premium" sampler, I got to choose 3 tequilas of my choice from anything on the menu. As some may know on here, I have never tried the high roller tequilas so this was my chance! My preference order was...Partida Elegante, Chinaco Negro, and Herradura Selleccion Suprema. They were generous 1/2oz pours and I think they bordered the one ounce mark. I fell in love with Partida Elegante....why oh why must this be a 300.00 bottle? - Thats ok, the Pura Sangre anejo is in my price range and it rocked my world to. The HSS was a bit upsetting given the price point vs. taste (IMO). The Chinaco negro was out of this world as well...

I did try the HSS in a margarita by accident before. That can be found somewhere in the forums. Overall we had a great night, good food, and some damn good tequila. I'm already planning my next trip back to Agave Azul.

.5 oz?

Really?

I dunno man, that might not be quite enough for me to appreciate the juice, leave you chasing the dragon so to speak...

Nice of them to pour heavy on the big buck round though.

Edit: Oh yeah, congrats on your achievement! Have one on me, but uhhh, can you spot me for it? I'm a little short.

Congrats Buddy. Agave Azul in Carrollton? (I used to live and work in that town, but there was nothing that cool there 25 years ago!). That place is my first priority stop next time I'm in Texas.

Thanks for the congrats guys.

I didn't know about Agave Azul until it was mentioned by Rosco...thanks for that buddy. I didn't visit until it was mentioned by S&P Premium Brands where they featured Don Valente for a month awhile back. 18 months ago when I went I was beyond amazement and just wanted everything. This year I controlled myself and stuck to a margarita and the ultra premium sampler and I'm glad I didn't second guess myself.

I'm still learning about tequila slowly and even though I have drank my fair share in the last few years...I've always steerred clear of the small batch, extra aged ultra premiums. I probably still won't buy a botte but it was a great experience to appreciate something of this class. I have to admit it, for the evening I felt like a high roller.

As for the pours, I came home and busted out my own glasses and poured .5oz...no way they were that small....i got 3 sips easily out
