Default Head to head blancos

Last night we tried a few blancos, some old and some new....the list of preference is below...

Casa Noble
Cuervo Platino
Tequila Republic
Agavales
El Reformador

It was fun...the majority ruled this order between about 6 friends. 2 of us put the Platino over the Casa Noble and the El Reformador over the Agavales but the general consensus showed the order listed.

I know the only similarities of the above are they are all 100% agave. I couldn't put Agavales in the same category as Casa Noble because of the vast difference in price points but each one of these was solid. I did not like the El Reformador much, it was very oily and quite a bit of pepper on the finish, more than the rest.

I was over in Oregon and found a shop with the Cuervo Platino on sale for $50, so I picked up a bottle. It is very, very nice. My only complaint is that they could tone down the presentation bit and knock a few $ off the price.

I didn't care for the Platino. There was just something about the taste profile that didn't set well with me. Not worth the asking price. Around me about $59. You can get three bottles of the Tenampa Azul for the same price and it's JC as well. I bought this lately and it's very decent. Strangely though, and I'll be doing some more tests, the couple of times I've had it (9 oz. or so) I had a headache the next morning.

Around here I can find it for 34.99 which is the only price I'll pay. It's a very small liquor store with a very small selection of 100% agave tequila but it sure beats the 50.00+ everywhere else charges. I haven't had a bad experience with it. I've been wanting to try the RDLF Anejo but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I can find the JC Platino around here for about $39.00 out the door. IMHO it is of decent quality and I rate it as an "above average" blanco for sipping. I can find better quality.......CN, Siete Leguas, and Frida Kahlo to name just a few for equal or less money. The Agavales however only works as a mixer for me. As hard as I tried, I could not acquire a taste for it served neat. At $22.99-$24.99 per 1.75 ml. bottle, it is okay to use as a 'house margarita' tequila.

For my money...id put TEZON blanco up against ANYTHING for a great, inexpensive sipping blanco. Just my opinion though!

X.

I liked the Tezon very much as well, but it's never been affordable. Around here the state is still asking $63.00 for the blanco!! bottles that have been setting on the shelves for months.

IMHO Tezon is a very nice tequila. It also comes with a typically high price point in most areas. I remember a little over a year ago Seth at Shoppers Vineyard was clearing out his inventory. He was offering a CRAZY deal on all three flavors of Tezon for $35.00. That's correct..... three 750 ml. bottles of Blanco, Repo and Anejo! I know that many T.net members took advantage of that spectacular deal! OBTW....I could never figure out why more retail stores wouldn't want to offer special sale prices on tequilas that have been sitting on their shelves for months......even years! Maybe their profit margin goes down some but it also helps to clear out some shelf space affording them the opportunity to stock it with a newer, hotter selling item(s).

Thats a crazy price for it! I have never paid over 40.00 for any of the three up here in South Dakota. I know what cost is on it per bottle and I cant believe that in other areas they are cranking the price up that far.....rediculous!

I just recently have had the pleasure of trying Chinaco blanco, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. In fact, I'm finding myself being drawn away from repos, buying and enjoying blancos. Whoodathunkit?
