Default casa dragones

hi all first post!

anyway, was a scotch guy who got into wine who got into beer and now after coming back from mexico, tequila. i was blown away by the tequilas i was trying. i hadnt tried tequila since my battle w jose cuervo in high school 20 years ago (or so).

anyway, a friend gave me a bottle of casa dragones. apparantly he knows the owner and he is going to get more for me. i looked online and its pricey but not much in the way of reviews. i LOVE it. smooth, beautiful flavor with a melon finish. what is the general consensus on this tequila?

I've heard a bit about this brand, but have yet to try it. It is a blend of Blanco and Extra Anejo Tequila (5 year) from the lowlands.

I do know that the owner was previously an executive (global brand director) for Jose Cuervo.

Welcome tequilalovah! Glad to see you finally made your way around to tequila and tequila.net. I've never seen or tried the casa dragones either, but i'm always looking to expand my horizons when it comes to tequila!!!

Just tried the Casa Dragones.....
I am not a big fan of Blancos.....in this case Joven, but this Joven is mixed perfectly with anejo to provide a wonderful and distinct taste. There isn't the huge alcohol bite, that you would expect with a blanco, but rather a hint of sweetness.

I dug up some info on this brand and it is quite interesting. The guy who started Casa Dragones is Bob Pittman who started MTV and also AOL. Bob partnered up with the first woman "Master Tequilera", Bertha Gonzalez Nieves head of Jose Curevo at the time to produce the tequila. Gonzalez choose a lowland property for the Agave, due to the volcanic rich in mineral soil, which Gonzales says produces very sweet and savory Agaves. Gonzales says it took over a year to find the proper mix of blanco / anejo and it was only perfected when she coaxed a master distiller out of retirement to fine tune the tequila. The tequila is charcoal filtered to remove the color.

Only 12,000 bottles were produced and released in 2009, which they were all sold. If you come across this tequila, it is a must to try.

Bienvenidos tequilalovah!

The Casa Dragones sounds interesting - I'll watch for it in my travels. Do you know if it is available in Mexico, or is it an export product?

I am not sure that my Blanco-Purist tendencies approve of blending, but I am sure willing to check it out.

Welcome to the group.

Online prices have it at $275.
A tad steep for me. But if I ever get the chance for a sampling, I'll give it a go

Bertha also famously worked on Cuervo's "Platino" product.

I recently got a bottle of Casa Dragones without even having an idea of how much the average retail for this Tequila was (got a good deal on it). I can't seem to crack it open without first tasting it at a Tequila Bar. Who knows, I might just go ahead and crack it open someday when I get tired of fighting my thoughts about this Tequila From what blagave mentioned, I think it's worth tasting it.
Salud
