Default Reviving .....

We're doing another Cancun trip. Its been two years, so maybe someone will have some newer info.

I'm not going to be searching a whole lot for tequila this time, just the nearby shops and the Hacienda Tequila in the mall.

My question this time: What are the best Mexico only tequilas that can be found in Cancun?

For a taste starting point, my favorites are Casa Noble and Clase Azul.
I dont necessarily want copy cats, but I do like the smoother tequilas with a little bit of a sweet note. A spicy/peppery taste is always good too.

Sounds like we could be drinkin' buddies - we like the same things. I have found that Afamado anejo, Los Tres Tonos anejo and Aha Toro anejo are all very good. My other faves are CN Single Barrel Anejo, DJ 1942, Clase Azul repo, and Partida anejo, but those are available outside of MX.

Thanks for mentioning Plaza Kukulcan (Luxury Avenue at the one end) - there is of course the Hacienda Tequila Factory (not a factory, just a display) and the time I was there and bought DJ 1942, the guy threw in a ten-dollar 3 pack of Siete Leguas 50 mls. They also had a special on my last trip, if you spent over a hundred dollars (insert "DUH!!! Yeah!!" sound here), you got a nice hardcover book on tequila.

There are two drugstores downstairs with tequila in them as well, some with unusual names and one had a large selection of 50mls (snack size!).

If you go down Blvd Kukulcan, right to the left side of Margaritaville there is a souvenir store with a great selection of tequila. Don't forget La Isla Mall - there was a store I'd read about on the web but never found it - reportedly it had a great selection at the back of a drug store.

Please post tales of your purchases - I like to live vicariously.

Just to add to the CUN thread, the price today (11/11/11) for Clase Azul 750 was 75.00 USD and a bottle of Maracame Anejo was 72.00 USD. Hope this helps members and lurkers plan their purchases.
