Default Tenampa Azul Reposado vs. El Jimador Reposado

So I'm here on vacation in Florida and needed to pick up some inexpensive 100% tequila for mixing. I go to local liquor store and pick up a bottle each of the El Jimador and Tenampa Azul reposados. I always like to sip it first to taste it and I found the El Jimador to have a funny aftertaste, almost like chemicals. I tried the Tenampa Azul and it was much better, still a little harsh like most inexpensive tequilas but very drinkable.

I was wondering if anybody else here has tried both of them side by side and had similar findings?

P.S. The funny thing though, is that the Tenampa Azul was actually 3 bucks cheaper.

I have both brands here at my tequila bar and IMHO, would give the nod to the El Jimador as far as a better sipper but.....not by much. When I do use a repo for casual mixing, I usually call on the Azul simply because of the $16.49 avg. price tag for the bottle. I believe the El Jimador runs around $19.99. I have never had a problem with an aftertaste from EJR. Maybe yours was an "off" bottle? Were these prices similar to what you paid down south?

Yeah the prices were I think $17 and $20 at Total Wine and BJs, don't know if it was an off bottle, but I think I'll stay with the Azul. I never was a big fan of El Jimador or even Herradura for that matter.
