Default Del Maguey single village mezcal

I have been wanting to try mezcal. I have heard great things about Del Maguey. I am looking at the ones in the $70 price range.

1. Chichicapa
2. San Luis del Rio
3. Santo Domingo Albarradas
4. Minero

Which one would you recommend, and why.
Which one do you not like and why.

Thanks for your help

They are all good IMHO my first choice would be Chichicapa, and Minero

We had a tasting not long ago with Ron Cooper and tried many of them head to head. Each is very distinct in flavor, and I would also agree with Wichie on his choice of Chichicapa and Minero.

Are there big differences in them, or is it subtle? I've been wanting to try some, but don't know what to pick. Here in Ohio it's not available at stores. So for $70 +shipping online I don't want to make a "bad" choice. I'm sure they're all good in their own way though from what I've read, I just haven't seen any individual tasting notes to help me choose.

You can order from Mezcal.com and avoid the shipping charges I believe. Try the Chichi...

Thanks for all of the input. I was able to try the Chichicapa and the Minero this last weekend. I must say they both were good but I think I enjoyed to Minero the best out of the two. I cant wait to try some of the others. Thanks again

Has anyone seen it in the Cancun area? I asked in a shop in Playa Del Carmen, and the lady said she's never heard of it. Maybe just an inexperienced salesperson, or slight language barrier?

For some cocktails and food recipes made with Mezcal, see Cooper's page, lots of good stuff there:
