    Default Sombra Mezcal

I went to a Del Maguey dinner this evening at Tambien Tequila bar here in Denver. Ron Cooper was present with his DM Mezcal products, and we also were able to taste the first bottles of Sombra Mezcal, created for Richard Betts, Master Sommelier of the Little Nell in Aspen Colorado. Sombra Mezcal is a bit lighter on the palete, lower in alcohol than DM, and a treat to sample. The true unveiling of Sombra is Thursday night in Aspen, along with an introduction at the Aspen Food and Wine festival this coming weekend.

I'm not sure on the retail price just yet, but will guess around $50-60.

Mr A, was the Sombra you tasted the de Oaxaca?

I just read an article about this Mezcal, it said that the line was introduced in 2008 and it is a micro-batch Mexcal and is very popular in New York.

The article said the Mezcal is spicy with notes of citrus and smoke.....sounds interesting. Cost was stated at $60 per bottle. I think I will see if my friend can get a few bottles at his store.

Yes, Sombra - Agave de Oaxaca. It is a lighter version of DM San Luis del Rio.
