Default Scorpion?

OK, there is a liquor store local to me that carries Scorpion Mezcal. It carries a premium price tag ($60+), but it has a bug in the bottle. Now, everything else I've had that included a critter was pretty raspy. Is this stuff good? How about compared with Chichicapa or Minero?

IMHO Scorpion Mezcal is worthy, with one of my favs being the 5 year anejo. DM Chichicapa is my standard for Mezcal at about $70 here in CO.

Which bottle is it that costs $60? They have the silver, repo, and 4 anejos.

It's the reposado. And IIRC, it was $62. I don't mind spending that kind of scratch for a good product, but it it's just a gimmick I'll spend $8 more and order up some Chichicapa.

I hear scorpions taste pretty okay, like little tiny chickens.

Its ok, I was pleasantly suprised when I first tasted it. I still prefer DM though.

Hey Wichie...have you had a chance to sample the Scorpion Blanco? I was contemplating ordering a bottle. I don't have much of a Mezcal background with DM Chichicapa, METL 2012, and more recently Mezcal Felino as my only experiences. So far my favorite was the DM but I'm always willing to give something new a try.

I love the flavor of the Chichicapa personally, but you won't find any aged products from DM, unless you were lucky enough to get a bottle of the Chichi Special Cask Finish for $300+. If you want aged Mezcal, do the Scorpion...

I like the Repo and the 5 year anejo the best out of the line.

I also like Los Danzantes second only to DM IMHO, and they make a Repo.

Definately try the Scorpion, its good for having a bug in it but its no DM.

I brought up in another thread that WA state now has all expressions of Zacatecano Mezcal at several locations in the Puget Sound area in the state run stores. Little stiff on the price at $42-54 per 750ml bottle, but unique in having 2 aged mezcals in WA. I've never had any but DM Chichicapa and Minero at 90+ proof, so am off to try the anejo (80 proof) right now.
