Tequila Chinaco Reposado NOM 1127 tasted 10/2/08 from a Riedel glass. I ordered this from Shopper's Vineyard and paid 44.00/750ml. A clear light pale yellow color with long quick legs and lots of pearls. Loads of earthy agave, a fruity sweetness, and mild alcohol on the nose. A med to thin mouthfeel. First taste is simple and appears mild but then develops into a one-two heated agave punch turning hotter as it lingers. The aftertaste is intense but in a satisfying way. On the stronger side, much more so at the end than upon entry. Dominant agave and heat throughout the tasting finish. Sharp and dry with some spice and wood tones and not much else. A strong pure agave reposado sure to please thoses who like their tequila on the bold side. Presentation is on the simple side with nice smooth lines, cork stopper, and silk screened labeling.

Tequila 1921 Reserva Especial 100% Agave Single Barrel Reposado. NOM 1079 Lote # 198. Tasted 9/30/08 in a Riedel glass. I ordered this from Total Beverage and paid 45.00/750ml. A slightly dull golden yellow color. First nose is brandy, wood, sweet butter, and a cherry fruit essence. An amazing nose full on agave and mild on alcohol. A medium to heavy oily body with long slow legs. Intial taste is bold and intense, not too sweet with the right amount of heat and a sustained finish. It goes down extra smooth with no bitterness in the aftertaste leaving a very pleasant agave taste on the tongue. The alcohol is balanced and complements the overall taste and nose. Presentation involves one of the more unusual bottles and a clay label. The wax and cork are a bit tricky but otherwise very nice. This tequila well deserves the label Especial. I definitely agree with the many accolades this tequila has received as it is one of my favorites when I'm in the mood for something other than a blanco.

Tequila Cabo Wabo Blanco NOM 1467. I purchased this bottle for 42.00 at the local ABC store. Aroma-nose isn't bad, high spicey, sweet and earthy. A clean slight meds/hospital element to it. First taste is harsh agave, high olive, cloves and hot alcohol. Body is medium to syrupy. Raw and sweet green, this tequilas balance is on the bold side. Moderate to high bitterness with alcohol burn upon swallowing but strangely little to no numbing or tingle to the finish. Overall impression in taste and smell is an overwelming prolonged alcoholness with an unpleasent bitter aftertaste. Everthing about it is on the weak/mild side except the alcohol. I'm sure this blanco appeals to many, and I am a big fan of Sammy Hagar, but when comparing it side by side with better blancos it comes up sorely lacking in many ways. Of all the blancos I own I like this one the least. Presentation is nice but the cork separated from the top when I originally tried to open it.

Tequila siembra azul Reposado. NOM 1414,(same as MuchOte). Tasted 4/5/08 in a Riedel glass. I ordered this from WineChateau.com and paid $42.00/750ml. This fine tequila is 100% organic and certified Kosher. 1st nose I noticed wood and nectar but mostly a cooked agave dominance and little else to distract me. Little noticable alcohol on the nose. 1st taste had no bitterness, moderate sweetness and agave heat. Well balanced in flavor and aroma from start to the finish. There is a wonderful depth and complexity of character to this tequila. Clean, crisp and straightforward. It has a medium slightly oily body and many pearls. Nice warmth on the tongue with a lingering alcohol numbness. A softness throughout and a little bit of everything makes this a very enjoyable reposado experience. I'm going back for more!

MuchOte Tequila Reposado tasted 3/28/08 in a Riedel glass. I purchased this bottle online with Total Beverage for 28 dollars. This is a perfect example of a really good tequila, at an excellent price presented in a really lame bottle, so I'm torn! The truth is you can't have it all and the makers of MuchOte have done a great job striking and offering a happy medium. The color is a light medium golden hue and the initial nose was sweet and really inviting. Sweet nectar with a nose tingling alcohol and agave base. In the glass it has quick legs. On the tongue it has a light mouth feel and thin body. A strong tequila profile in the nose and throat, with a very long mouth numbing heat after swallowing. This repo is not fooling around or whimpy at all! Not sweet and the taste is pure agave, with lots of smoke, some wood, and mild bitterness on the tongue but not in the aftertaste. I'm very glad I decided to give this a try. It didn't disappoint. The presentation is another matter but the price more than makes up for it. Just as basic as it gets. I like the screw cap for a change and nice labeling. The work and effort here went into the tequila. It will surprise you!
