Yucatán: Tequila Befitting A Legend Pedro Infante, the legendary Mexican singer and actor who died in 1957, will have a tequila named after him next month at the Tequila Expo in Playa del Carmen, on the Yucatán's Riviera Maya. In addition to the Pedro Infante 50-Year Tequila, the expo will feature art and cultural performances in Infante's honor, with his daughters, Lupita and Irma Infante, participating. Infante, who was arguably the most beloved actor and singer of the golden age of Mexican cinema, was especially fond of the Caribbean coast south of Cancún (which during his lifetime had no resorts, eco-adventure companies or even the "Riviera Maya" moniker). The annual Tequila Expo, held Aug. 16–19., offers a chance to sample the best brands of Mexico's national drink with expert guidance. Local bartenders will compete to produce the best tequila cocktail, chefs will vie for the prize for best tequila dish, and the national restaurant association will stage a Gastronomic Expo on the final day.
